FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - (Update - 4:10 p.m.): Kentucky State Police said Henry Foster, 33, of Raven, Virginia, was killed in the trooper-involved shooting.

KSP troopers say the shooting happened at approximately 10 a.m. Monday, outside of Dollar General on KY-680 East, near the community of Harold.

KSP troopers said just before 8 a.m. Foster was reportedly attempting to enter several vehicles and requesting transportation from that location. When they got to the scene, troopers said Foster had a firearm and began threatening self-harm.

During the interaction, troopers said they tried talking to Foster to try and de-escalate the situation. Just before 10 a.m., a trooper fired his firearm, striking Foster, which resulted in life-threatening injuries.

Lifesaving measures were attempted, according to investigators, but Foster was pronounced dead at the scene.

(Update - 10:50 a.m.): WYMT has learned that the suspect has died following an officer-involved shooting.

The name of the person killed has not been released.

(Original story): There is a heavy police presence on Route 979 in the Harold area of Floyd County.

According to a post on Facebook, deputies with the sheriff’s office said it is near a Dollar General due to an active law enforcement related incident.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office told WYMT the situation stems from a traffic stop that occurred Sunday night.

Sheriff John Hunt says Kentucky State Police troopers and deputies with the Floyd County Sheriff’s office answered a call about a reckless driver who had a passenger in the vehicle.

The driver fled on foot late last night and a call came in Monday morning and said the driver was located in the Harold Dollar General parking lot.

KSP responded and requested assistance, then it became an active standoff outside of the store. The standoff is over and traffic is rolling through, but KSP is still on site.

Sheriff Hunt told WYMT No law enforcement individuals were injured during the incident.

We will update this story when more details become available.
