Gas station owners in Clay County say they have received numerous threats from other owners and managers urging them to match their prices to other gas stations.

The owners WYMT talked with asked not to be identified, but told us the threats started recently when they received a call from one owner telling them to match their prices with other stations in the area.

“[They said] if we did not raise our prices up to where they should be, and that was according to them what they thought it should be, that they were going to cut our throat and hurt our business,” the owner said.

They said they have not changed their prices to match other stations because they say other stations in Manchester overcharge customers.

"We just basically told him that we were going to price our gas to where we can make a profit from it and whatever that price was would be our price,” the owner said.

Many customers said they keep their eyes out for the lowest prices to help save money.

"I just look at the gas prices and try to see where I could get it cheaper,” said Krystle Robinson.

The owners we spoke with posted a message on Facebook about the threats made to them. They said the outpouring of support from the customers has been incredible so far.

“A very large outpouring of people in the community that were going to support us and thought it was wrong for somebody else to try to tell us how to run our business,” they said.

WYMT reached out to the office of the Attorney General asking if they are investigating gas stations in the area, they could not confirm or deny an investigation. We also asked other station owners and managers if they wanted to speak to us on camera, they declined.
