Southwestern Lady Warriors return entire roster for upcoming season

SOMERSET, Ky. (WYMT)- Coming out of the 12th Region will be a tough task for Southwestern, but the Lady Warriors feel they have the right pieces in place.

"Honestly, I just think that we have a really good chance of going to state this year and that is my goal every," said Senior, Kallie Sheron.

The Lady Warriors finished at Number 7 in our Alice Lloyd College Mountain Top 10 last year going 23-8. Southwestern expects to be right around that same mark this season at the very least.

"We're going to be OK. We were 28-3 last year and bring everybody back. Probably play 9/10 kids every night," said Head Coach, Stephen Butcher II.

"Everyone is still here. We have the same starting five as we did last year. We have a really good connection," said Junior Kennedy Harris.

"It gives us a big advantage just because we all know what each other like even with the bad things I mean we all know what each other doesn't like and what each other does like to do," said Junior, Alexa Smiddy.

That connection comes at the hands of the two seniors. While the Senior Class is much smaller than in years past, the bond is still just as great.

"We used to have at least five and now we have come down to just me and Kallie," said Senior, Hanna Phelps. "Right now I would say Callie is like our team captain right now. We are like best friends basically. We've been with each other sincere 8th grade when she moved and won the state championship in middle school and ever since then we've gotten closer and closer."

That duo continues to push their teammates keeping them focused.

"Just keep working hard. We have worked hard all summer, all seasons. We are just ready to go out there and finally put her efforts into play," said Junior, Regi Cundiff.

Making this season and next exciting for the Lady Warriors.

Jenna Wood, a junior said, "We just graduate two people this year and we get everybody else back next year, it's really exciting," said Junior, Jenna Wood.

Southwestern comes in at No. 8 in the preseason girls' basketball Alice Lloyd College Mountain Top 10.
