University of Cumberlands stay in 11th in NAIA Top 25 Poll

Kansas City, MO – The UC Football program utilized its defense and special teams last week in their 24-13 win over the Bears of the University of Pikeville. Now 4-0 overall on the year and 1-0 in Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division play, UC was able to continue their run in this week's edition of the AFCA NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.

UC received 235 total points which is good to hold steady to their spot at #11 in the top 25 poll, national office officials announced on Monday. UC is one of six Mid-South Conference teams to earn a spot inside the Top 25 with one other on the outside looking in as they also received votes. Defending NAIA National Champion Morningside (Iowa) continued their winning streak and moved to 4-0 to receive all 17 first-place votes once again, garnering 392 total points to continue their run at the peak of the top 25 poll. A new team found themselves in every other spot inside the top nine this week with two upsets.

The first MSC team mentioned was Lindsey Wilson College, who knocked off #14 Bethel on Thursday night 58-3, to move to 5-0 on the season. Their 273 total points has them staying at #10 in the poll. Southeastern held tight at #12 this week with a 30-10 win over Ave Maria. Bethel (Tenn.) also climbed three spots from #17 to #14 after their handling of Point University 48-21 last week.

Sun Division leader Keiser University is in at #19, climbing three spots from #22 after a 35-3 win over Faulkner. Reinhardt also climbed, but this one a short climb, from #21 to #20 after defeating Kentucky Christian 71-21. Bethel University would see a big drop in poll, falling nine spots from #14 to #23 after their loss Lindsey Wilson on Thursday.

The Phoenix of Cumberland University continues to get some national attention as they still received votes in the top 25.

The Patriots return to the field on Saturday, October 12th at home as they host the #23 ranked Bethel University Wildcats.
