KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Ninth-ranked Union College led from wire-to-wire in an NAIA Top 20 showdown as it defeated No. 19 Warner University (Fla.) on Saturday at the NAIA DII “The Show” Showcase.
The Showcase is being held at the MeadowView Marriott Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
The win is the Bulldogs’ fourth in a row as they improve to 6-2 overall. The Royals, meanwhile, fall to 5-3.
Union wasted little time in seizing control of the game, as Jabari Antwine drained a 3-pointer to open the scoring with Union racing out to a 12-2 lead by the 17:24 mark. The Bulldogs led by as much as 21 points (29-8 at the 8:53 mark) during the first half and took a 45-28 cushion into the break.
It was much of the same in the second half for the Bulldogs. The Royals never really threatened to get back into the game. A Lance Blakley 3-pointer with 8:21 remaining gave Union its largest lead of the game at 71-49.
The Bulldogs let off the gas a bit down the stretch but won comfortably 79-67.
