BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - Men's basketball earned the 10th seed in the 2019 Mountain East Conference Men's Basketball Tournament following the conclusion of Saturday's games. UVa-Wise will face No. 7 seed Shepherd University Wednesday at 6 p.m. inside the WesBanco Arena.

Blake Mellinger's team was selected 11th in the MEC Preseason Poll and finished with a 9-19 overall record and went 6-16 in league play. UVa-Wise went 0-2 against the Rams this season with a one-point 80-79 loss at home and an 84-77 road loss last month.

The top 10 teams qualify for the tournament at WesBanco Arena, with the top six seeds earning byes. West Liberty, the No. 1 seed for the tournament, captured its fifth regular season titles in the last six years earlier in the week. West Liberty is looking for just its second MEC Tournament title, though, after having won the title in 2017.

Fairmont State is the No. 2 seed, followed by Notre Dame, Charleston and Concord. West Virginia State won the tiebreaker over Shepherd for the No. 6 seed and the final first-round bye. The Rams have the No. 7 seed, while West Virginia Wesleyan is 8th, Wheeling Jesuit is 9th and UVa-Wise took the final spot by virtue of a tiebreaker with Glenville State. The Cavaliers will take on Shepherd in the first round, while the Bobcats and Cardinals will meet up in the other first round matchup.
