PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Fresh off a 28-5 season that ended with a bid to the NAIA National Tournament, this year's UPIKE men's basketball team was ranked No. 8 in the 2018-19 Preseason Coaches' Poll which was released Tuesday.
UPIKE is the second-highest ranked team from the Mid-South Conference, behind No. 4 Georgetown. Other MSC teams to make the cut include Cumberlands (Ky.) at No. 16 and Lindsey Wilson at No. 25. Campbellsville and Life also received votes.
The Bears lost the services of 2018 Mid-South Player of the Year Darrion Leslie, but still return two all-MSC players in Jayvian Delacruz and Jordan Perry.
UPIKE's season begins next weekend with the UPIKE Tip-Off Classic. Pikeville's first game is at 8:00 p.m. Friday against Central Penn and then it faces Florida National at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday in the East Kentucky Expo Center.
Season tickets are still available for the 2018-19 season for $80 per seat, which includes admission to all UPIKE men's and women's basketball games, as well as all games of UPIKE's three early season tournaments.
