The Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs set their sights high despite being slept on

LOUISA, Ky. (WYMT) - The Lady Bulldogs were 20-9 last season and runner-ups in the 58th District. They bowed out in the quarterfinals of the 15th Region to eventual champion Johnson Central, 82-49.

Like a number of teams in the mountains, Lawrence County has a young team with only three seniors. However they only lost two senior from last year's district runner-up team. Even though they are slept on, the Lady Bulldogs expect to make some noise this year.

"We definitely want to win the district championship," said Head Coach Melinda Feltner. "We were tied with Floyd Central last year, and the one seed and they won the tip, so but anyway those are our goals, and then competing for a regional championship every year. That's what we strive to do."

"Just like every team, you know we want to get us a district championship," Junior Small Forward Lexie Ratliff added. "We wanna be able to compete, but I think in the long run, you wanna play for that district championship."

"We only have three seniors. We only lost two last year, so I think our team will do well this year with that group," Sheree Hay, a senior small forward commented.

"People like have really always thought of us as the underdog. Like, we've always came out and we've went to region almost every year, but somehow people still look at us as underdogs, but I think we're really gonna be like slept on," Senior Forward Kelly Davis added.
