INEZ, Ky. (WYMT) - Last year the Sheldon Clark Lady Cardinals had just above a .500 record, going 15-14 overall.
This year, they return almost everyone and have only one senior on their roster.
The Lady Cardinals say their key to success will be their defense and that their experience playing together will be beneficial despite their youth.
"It's kind of a challenge, but we've always been together so that kind of makes it easier too," said Paige Maynard.
"We've only got one senior this year, we didn't have any seniors last year and had a foreign exchange student that we lost that went back but outside of that we have had the same team for the last two to three years and we've considerably gotten better each year," said head coach Tim Rice.
"We are very unselfish in everything that we do," said McKenzie Preston. "We try to move the ball around a lot, we try to make sure that everybody is involved and we try to pride ourselves on being a defensive team because it's not that we aren't offensively talented, but we also believe in the motto that defense wins games."
"We are going to be more defensive oriented this year because we have the offense, but defense wins championships," said Madison Thompson.
"We really want to make a good impression being the last group out of Sheldon Clark and just make the rest of the Sheldon Clark teams proud," said Kristen Isaac.
