PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - High schools are on Christmas break so athletes are enjoying a few days off.
Many basketball players are getting ready for some more holiday tournaments over the course of the next few days just like last week.
That's where this week's player of the week caught our attention.
Shelby valley's Cody Potter posted 41 points on night two of the Hi-tech Signs/Grapix Holiday Tournament at Prestonsburg and 40 points on the final day.
Potter scored 33 of his 40 points against Cordia Saturday in the second half, knocking down seven three-pointers.
On Friday the junior also hit seven threes as the Wildcats withstood a rally from Perry Central.
"Right now we are down one of our better players in Cameron Worrix who is having some back problems," said Shelby Valley boys' basketball head coach Jim Hicks. "We told Cody you know he is gonna have to step things up and pick up the slack and he kinda took that to a new level so."
"He steps across midcourt and he is in his range, but the biggest thing people miss about Cody is he is a very unselfish player. But, I've never seen a kid where when the ball leaves his hands it looks like it is going in all the time. I got confidence in him. He's got confidence in himself," Hicks said.
"Every time, I think it is going in. That is how you got to be," said Cody Potter. "Score the ball rebound and everything I can to help us win. We are just following coaches game plan and just playing well with my teammates. We have great Chemistry and always play hard."
