Robin Newsome to take over girls' basketball program for Martin County High School
Less than one month ago Sheldon Clark High School lost their head girls' basketball coach Tim Rice, he died in a car crash.
Wednesday, the school announced that Robin Newsome will be the new girls' head coach in the program's first season as Martin County High School.
Newsome came out of retirement to take the position, as she retired from Sheldon Clark as the school's Athletic Director in December 2017.
Newsome says that her first love was the sport of basketball, and now she returns to the sidelines with mixed emotions while remembering her good friend.
"It is a bag of mixed emotions with everything and the way that it came about with the tragedy with Coach Rice," Newsome said Wednesday. "On one side of the coin it was sad, then on the other side it was exciting because we have the brand new school, the brand new gym and we have some really good basketball players coming back."
"I can't replace him, but I think that he would be honored that I am stepping up, and it's not anything that he wouldn't have done for me," Newsome added.
Sheldon Clark is coming off of a 13-15 season, but the team only graduated two seniors and return five juniors.
