PINEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - After 34 years as a high school head basketball coach, J D Strange has stepped down from Pineville High School.

The school announced his decision Friday afternoon.

Strange served as head coach for the Pineville Mountain Lions for the last 18 years, winning the 51st Basketball District in 2007 and becoming the 13th Region Class "A" Champions four times.

Before that, Strange was the head coach at Knox Central High School, Allen County-Scottsville High School and Bell County High School. He also served as head basketball coach at St. Catharine Jr. College and as an assistant basketball coach at Campbellsville College, bringing his years of coaching to a total of 41.

Pineville High School named James David Strange, 28, as Interim Head Basketball Coach for the rest of the season. James David graduated from the school in 2009 and served as an assistant coach there for the last four years.

"With a group of promising young basketball players at Pineville and his demeanor and ability to communicate with the players, we feel that James David is a great fit to lead the Mountain Lions Basketball Program during this time," the school wrote in a release.
