PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Junior linebacker Jon Collum stepped in for Pikeville when the Panthers needed him most last Friday night in Pikeville's semi-state match-up against the Raceland Rams.
He switched to the offensive side of the ball and tallied 86 rushing yards with one touchdown on just three attempts, helping secure the Panthers the victory.
"Jon is a workhorse for us, and he is normally a guy that we ask a lot out of defensively," said Pikeville football head coach Chris McNamee. "But in practice, they put a little set under center for Jon at fullback, even though we practiced it, I don't know if he ever thought he would get called upon. But I don't expect anything less out of Jon, he's got that big play potential, just an extremely hard worker and a great kid and I am extremely proud of him."
"I mean it was awesome, we rep it all the time during practice, kind of keeping it in our back pocket," said Collum. "I feel like the team needed a big play and I was willing to step in there. I think it was a good way to get the momentum back on our side."
