SOMERSET, Ky. (WYMT) - A reliable target for his sophomore quarterback...
"He definitely makes my job a lot easier, getting to throw the ball to a guy that has a lot of experience like him," Sophomore Quarterback Drew Polston said.
Jake Sloan is now Mr. 300, only the second player in the state to reach 300 receptions in state history. His former teammate Jake Johnson holds the record with 424 receptions.
However, Sloan doesn't get caught up in any of the hype.
"I mean I don't really think about it too much. I just go out on Fridays and do my own thing," Sloan said about his accomplishment. "I don't really pay attention to the numbers. I mean what happens, happens, and I try not to get my head wrapped around it too much."
"He definitely sets a good example - not as much by speaking, but just by his actions I think and how he plays on the field," Polston added.
So much so that a week ago, no one on the Pulaski County sideline knew how close he was to 300.
But his biggest fan knew
"My mom saves shirts from every year of football. She has a big old chest full of newspaper articles that they post," Sloan said about his mother.
Sloan's mother, Beth Sloan cheers him on from the sidelines. She's camera shy, but that's ok. Her support says it all.
"She keeps everything on her phone - all the records, the catches, the yards. She's definitely my biggest fan," Sloan added.
Despite all the accolades, Jake Sloan keeps a bigger goal in mind.
"More than just football. I have a great relationship with God and I want people to see that. I want to be able to set an example for all the fans watching," Sloan said.
