Middlesboro introduces Larry French as new head football coach

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WYMT) - Middlesboro officially introduced Larry French as their new head football coach Thursday afternoon.

The newly hired head coach was introduced to the entire Yellowjacket community. Community members, students and players alike were excited about French making his way to Middlesboro from Southwestern, something French says the team needs in order to be successful.

"I think you gotta have the community behind you in order to make sure the young people feel like it's important to be part of the football program and to be successful," French said. "You gotta have that outside pressure just a little bit to help you along a little bit. I think the community wants that. They want a good program, and we got a lot of work to do to get that program to where it's competitive you know, in the state."

French served as head coach for the Southwestern Warriors for five seasons, tallying a 47-17 record while with the program.

The Warriors finished the 2018 campaign with a 10-3 record and a visit to the Class 5A regional championship round.

Middlesboro finished the 2018 season with a 1-10 record.
