PAINTSVILLE, Ky (WYMT)- As the Paintsville Tigers enter the 15th Regional Volleyball Tournament as defending champs, they return senior leader Megan Taylor.
"Megan has been a starter for me since her seventh-grade year," said Paintsville Volleyball Head Coach, Dawn Kinner. "So being the four-year captain and seven-year starter, the girls really rally around her."
Taylor leads the nation in Kills with 812 and is third in hitting percentage, according to MaxPreps. The senior was also named the 15th Region Player of the year.
"I've worked really hard to get to this point so it's an honor to see all the hard work pay off," said Megan Taylor.
While Taylor is self-described as extremely shy, she offers more to the Tigers than just an impressive stats line.
"She brings a lot of enthusiasm," said Kinner. "She's so competitive. So when she gets fired up the girls get fired up. That's something you can't really coach, she just has it and we really feed off of that as a team."
Off of the Court, Taylor is a straight-A student.
"Megs, she is a great player but a great student-athlete. A lot of people look up to her. She does great in the classroom," said Kinner.
"Coach Kinner always tells us that academics come first so we always try our best in the classroom and it carries onto the court as well," said Taylor.
She will also take other lessons taught by Coach Kinner to the next level when she plays for Marshall. While Taylor will go on to be a freshman at the collegiate level, she will still be familiar with the team much like she was her freshman year of high school.
"I play club for River Cities Thunder so I'm already really close to the coaches and players," said Taylor.
