LEXINGTON, Ky. Freshman year provides a new experience for students all over the country going to college, add on top of that playing college basketball and it can be challenging at times. But so far so good for UK freshman Blair Green.
UK Women's Basketball head coach Matthew Mitchell says he was impressed from the start with the former Harlan County Lady Black Bear.
"My initial impression was just pretty much blown away by her preparation coming in here," Mitchell said Tuesday at Kentucky's Media Day. "Now, there are all sorts of coaching points you can give her to help her adjust to the college game but I have not had to coach her effort one time."
It also helps to have a close friend who can push you to be your best. That's what Green has in senior and fellow Eastern Kentucky native Maci Morris.
"Me and Blair have known each other for a long time, so I feel like I can be a little bit harder on her than maybe other people, just because we know each other and have that relationship," Morris said. "She has that willingness to learn and she wants to learn. It just makes her even a better player. I'm pretty sure everybody's going to be able to see that when she steps on the court."
Green hopes to build on the high praise from Mitchell over the course of the season, beginning with the team's exhibition game against Lincoln Memorial University on November 2nd.
