MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Last year, history made a way to Martin County with the addition of a new high school. On Thursday, history found its way there again, but this time for a different reason.
Kristen Isaac is a senior at Martin County High School and now the first student there to sign to play at the collegiate level.
"I was really excited to be the first one in Martin County. It's a really rare opportunity that nobody else is really going to have," Isaac says.
Isaac knows without support from her family and her friends, this would have been possible.
"I have had so many people supporting me in this and I'm just really thankful for all the support they've given me," she says.
Although this is the first signing in school history, it will not be the last.
"Sometimes kids have to see it before they can dream it or believe it and I wanted them to see this and hopefully one day they can be sitting there where she did," says Martin County girl's head basketball coach, Robin Newsome.
Isaac is staying close to home, signing with the Alice Lloyd College Eagles. However, no matter where she goes, her mom will be there every step of the way.
"I don't miss a game unless there is something bad. I don't miss a game," says Isaac's mom, Stephanie May.
Until next fall, Isaac will still wear cardinal red.
