PINEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Kentucky Women's Basketball senior guard Maci Morris returned home Wednesday to meet with fans who watch her on the court.
Morris has found success playing basketball throughout her career, being considered as one of 30 players in the nation this season for the Naismith Trophy.
"I dreamed about it. I never thought I would get there", Morris said. "I've had great help with my teammates and coaches who have helped me get to this point. I'm really grateful for Kentucky and all the people who support me and help me."
The senior is a figure that fans look up to, especially younger members of the Big Blue Nation.
"I just like love Maci! I think she's a great player," said Trinity Shoffner. "I think she deserves to be in the WNBA right now because of how good she is and how good she plays."
Morris says connecting with the men and women of Big Blue Nation, especially the younger generations, is something that motivates her.
"It just makes me want to be better as a person and as a player knowing that I have people looking up to me and having me as their role model", said Morris. "So I want to be the best person I can be so they have somebody good to look up to."
Kentucky has been successful this season as a whole as well, tallying a 20-5 record going into the final stretch of the season.
Morris says that she and her team are confident moving forward.
"I think we can go as far as we want," Morris said. "I mean, we just have to put in the work and play together and when we're playing our best basketball, we're hard to defeat."
