HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - It was quite the career to say the least for former M.C. Napier and Perry Central girls' basketball head coach Randy Napier.
Napier announced his retirement Thursday after spending 38 years on the sidelines. He said that he felt like it was time to step away, but he feels grateful for all of the phone calls and messages that he has received.
"It has been wild couple of days, and it really shocked me a little bit that that many people were going to react like that," Napier said during a phone interview Friday. "It makes you feel good that right where you live, people kind of care."
Napier leads the KHSAA in girls' basketball all-time wins with the two schools, tallying an 886-284 overall record.
In 1994, Napier led M.C. Napier to a KHSAA Girls' Sweet 16 Championship, defeating Highlands 88-56.
