Letcher Central Lady Cougars looking to surprise some people this season

WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Last year was a below .500 record for the Letcher Central Lady Cougars.

Letcher Central tallied a 13-18 overall record, but had a winning record in the 14th region, going 10-6.

Last year the Lady Cougars were young, and while they still have some youth on the roster this year, they are confident that they will raise some eyebrows this season.

"Well we definitely want to win District, that is our first option, then we want to try and make a goal for it in the region," said Brooklynn Collins.

"I'm looking forward to winning. I think people are going to be a little surprised by how good we are going to be. I'm very excited to put on a show for everyone," said Emma Maggard.

"We need to play a whole lot more defense than we did last year, our offense is really good but we just need to have that defense to get it in and I think we will be fine," said Alyssa Franklin.

"First of all we need to get our heads on straight and win region and hopefully go to Rupp this year," said Mackenzie Craft,

"We want to improve as a team and work on our defense and hopefully win a regional championship," said Jessica Boggs.

"We were very young last year, and still young, but the roles have changed, throughout the year we developed confidence in our kids and we'll be able to play more players this year we'll be able to handle the basketball a lot more," said head coach Keith Baker.
