HAZARD, Ky (WYMT)- After beating the Number One team in the Alice Lloyd College Mountain Top 10 last week, the Clay County Lady Tigers tipped off against a young but talented Hazard Lady Bulldogs Team in the first round of the WYMT Food City Mountain Basketball Classic.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 16-10 lead thanks to Senior, Simone Beverly. With five seconds in the first quarter, Shelby Phillips hit a three to pull the Lady Tigers within three, 16-13.
Again in the Second, Hazard continued to lead with Sophomore, Hayley Caudill hitting an And-one stay ahead 22-19.
Clay County took the lead late in the first half thanks to some late free-throws. Summer Parker hit another buzzer beater before the half, allowing Clay County to take a 30-27 lead into the break.
Clay County would outpace the Lady Bulldogs in the second half winning the first round of the WYMT Classic, 74-44.
Lady Tigers will play Pike Central Thursday at 8:30 PM in the Semi-finals.
Hazard will play Perry Central at 5 PM on Thursday in the Consolation Game.
