Knott Central takes home third place in the 2018 WYMT Food City Mountain Basketball Classic with a win over regional rival Perry Central

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - In a back and forth match-up between region rivals, No. 3 Knott Central outlasted No. 9 Perry Central, 57-53. The Patriots take home third place in the 2018 WYMT Food City Mountain Basketball Classic.

The game started up tempo with three straight threes. Khalil Slone was hot in the first quarter, as he scored 11 points in the opening frame, helping Knott Central to a 19-15 lead. The Commodores battled back in the second quarter to take a 27-25 lead into halftime.

The second half went similar to the first. Knott took control in the third quarter, ending the quarter up 48-39. However Perry Central battled back again in the fourth quarter. The Commodores took a 51-50 lead with under three minutes to play before a Darron Whitaker pull-up jumper put the Patriots up for good.

Down two late in the game, Camron Turner had a chance to take the lead for the Commodores, but his three came up short. Khalil Slone knocked down two free throws to seal the win for the Patriots.

Knott Central moves to 3-1 with the win, while the Commodores of Perry Central drop to 2-2.
