LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT) - An honor from one Harlan legend to a senior Green Dragon.

"I just think it's amazing that I can bring that back to Harlan for him, and kind of showcase what he had done for us and just kind of repeat that," Killian Ledford said.

Ledford, a senior at Harlan Independent, recieving the "Wah Wah" Jones Award at the Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball awards ceremony.

"We're looking for an athlete that does multi sports, that has a wonderful grade point average, involved in community and school," Ira Jones Dawson said, daughter of the late Wallace "Wah Wah" Jones. "Killian fits all the bill that we're looking for. And from what I hear and I've seen, he's a wonderful young man."

Ledford certainly fits the bill for the award. He plays four high school sports while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

"Honestly just a lot of support from family, and then teammates and coaches," Ledford said. "They work together to make sure that not just me, but other people who want to play multiple sports can do that and have that opportunity."

Dawson says that seeing young men follow in her father's foot steps means a lot to her.

"Some kids go to one sport, but to someone playing different sports and keep this grade point average up, and I feel like these men are following in my father's footsteps, which I think is an honor," Dawson said.
