CHICAGO, IL. (WYMT) - The No. 19 Kentucky Wildcats (9-2) picked up their first victory away from home Saturday evening with a 80-72 win over the No. 9 North Carolina Tar Heels (8-3) in the CBS Sports Classic.
The victory is also Kentucky's first win over a ranked opponent this season.
The Wildcats held the lead from the middle of the first half until the end of the ball game, with the Wildcats boasting a nine-point lead at the break.
UNC stayed close until the end, but Kentucky closed out the game keeping North Carolina at bay.
Keldon Johnson and Reid Travis led the way for the Wildcats. Johnson tallied 23 points on 8-13 shooting, 4-7 3FG. Travis tallied 20 points.
Kentucky is back in action next Saturday when the Wildcats go on the road to face rival Louisville (9-3). Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. on ESPN2.
