Kentucky football team members return to Lexington

LEXINGTON, KY. (WYMT/WKYT) - The Kentucky Wildcats are back in town.

Kentucky capped off a historic season with a win Tuesday in the Citrus Bowl.

The celebration continued Wednesday as fans waited outside Blue Grass Airport as the team landed back in Kentucky.

The fans who came out had to bundle up, but tell WKYT the trip to the airport was worth it.

"We wanted to see the players, wanted to congratulate them and let them know we were really excited that they won," said Lisa Wilson.

The team defeated Penn State 27-24. Despite the trip and how busy he's been over the last few days, Coach Mark Stoops till took the time to come say a few words.

"It feels good to be back. Great to be back in Lexington. Been a remarkable trip," said Coach Mark Stoops.

Some fans who came out Wednesday were season ticket holders. They told me they missed out on the chance to go to Florida but didn't want to miss seeing the team once last time.

We were going to go to the game and we didn’t get to make it so we were like I don’t know we just wanted to come and congratulate them and everything else," said Kayla Townsley.

Some members of the team decided to stay in Florida a little longer to enjoy the time off.
