CHICAGO, Ill. (WYMT/UK Athletics) - Since John Calipari came to Kentucky for the 2009-10 season, UK has produced 35 NBA Draft picks over nine seasons, nearly twice as many as the next-closest school (Duke). Included in the 35 are 26 first-rounders, three No. 1 overall picks and 19 lottery selections.
Of the 25 players at UK who have declared for the NBA Draft after their freshman seasons, 23 have been first-round draft picks. All 25 have played a game in the NBA.
John Calipari has made Kentucky the best school in the nation for getting players to the league.
Keldon Johnson talked about that Thursday with our sister station WKYT.
"I think that it definitely prepared me, playing for Coach Cal and all of the other coaches, they really prepared me and made me tough mentally throughout the season and I definitely think that he put me in a good position for me to excel," Johnson said during a media availability at the NBA Combine. "My hat goes off to coach Cal and the rest of the coaching staff. They have done an amazing job preparing me for this level right here."
PJ Washington and Tyler Herro will meet with the media at the combine on Friday.
