Johnson Central's Jim Matney picks up Coach of the Year award

PAINSTVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Johnson Central football's head coach Jim Matney has picked up a Coach of the Year award for his success this past football season.

Matney was named the 2016-17 Mideast Sectional Coach of the Year award for Boys Football (11-player).

Coach Matney was given the award over other coaches in Mideast Section states, which includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

The award recognizes those who are leading their sport, shaping their athletes and contributing in a positive way to their community.

Matney coached the Johnson Central Golden Eagles to a 12-3 record in the 2017 football season, including an appearance in the Class 4A State title game.
