HUNTINGTON, WV - Former Marshall and Johnson Central football player, Chris Deaton, died Staurday. Deaton was a member of the 1992 I-AA National Championship team.
Deaton was named to the All-Southern Conference second team in his first two years with the Herd before making the first team his last two years.
Marshall coach Doc Holliday released a statement. "Saddened to hear that Marshall Hall of Famer Chris Deaton passed away. A team captain and national champion, Deaton was inducted into our Hall of Fame in 2015. Great person and player. There are a lot of heavy hearts in our football family today."
Deaton was 48 years old.
