CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - North Laurel scored early and often en route to their first-ever Region championship, 73-33 over the defending champion Harlan County Lady Black Bears.
The Lady Jags were up 35-17 at the half and kept the pressure on as Harlan County tried to crawl their way back into the game.
"To know that we've had a lot of great coaches that's come through our program, and to know that we're one of the first ones to do it means a whole lot to me personally," Head Coach Eddie Mahan said. "I love that our kids are at that point now. I think our program's at a point now where we're earning that and I do think that it's going to be the first of many."
"I can't describe - I mean winning this for our seniors, it's nothing like I've ever done before, and it's so great. I love to be a part of it," Tournament MVP and Junior Guard Isabel Gray added.
With the win, The Lady Jaguars punched their ticket to the Sweet Sixteen, where they will take on the 2nd Region winner. Henderson County and Webster County play on Tuesday, March 5th in the championship game.
