Harlan's large senior class looks to lead their youth for upcoming season

HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) - Six wins are what the Harlan Green Dragons tallied last year. In a District semifinal thriller over Bell County, the Green Dragons secured their spot in the region tourney.

But their appearance was short-lived, falling in the first round.

This year the Green Dragons have six seniors on their roster. Mixed in with some youth, Harlan is looking to make some noise in the 13th region this season.

"I think having the older guys around kind of gives that experience to the younger guys because we have a lot of young talent coming up that will help us," said senior Kilian Ledford. "But those older guys kind of help the younger ones understand that everybody has a role and it is really important that you fill it to be successful."

"We have improved on our strength so I expect us to be more confident because strength builds confidence," said senior Cade Barnes. "So my goal this year is to do the best that I can since it is my last go around. I trust my teammates to do the best they can with me."

"My expectations are, I hope we win the All "A", hopefully, win District, and hopefully get a good shot at Region," said freshman Jordan Akal.

"Just compete, we didn't have the greatest of seasons last year and the last few years but it looks like, with this group, they get along well, they are going to compete and at the end of the day that is all that we want to do," said head coach Derrick Akal.

Harlan starts their year off with Bell County on November 26th.
