From bridesmaid to bride: Johnson Central takes down Pikeville in 15th Region final

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Fourth times the charm. After falling short three straight years in the region championship, Johnson Central ended Pikeville's reign over the 15th Region with a 66-61 win over the Panthers.

"Those past three years were tough. crying after the game but it just feels normal now," Senior Gabe Ferrell said.

Pikeville defeated Johnson Central the past two seasons.

"It makes it so much sweeter getting beat by them two years in a row and finally coming out on top," Senior Braxton Bentley said. "It doesn't get much better than that."

Isaiah May lead the Golden Eagles with 19 points, while tournament MVP Jacob Rice had 15 points, eight assists and four rebounds. Senior Kyle Watkins paced the Panthers with 21 points.

Johnson Central now turns their attention to the Sweet Sixteen, where they will take on Trinity (Louisville) and Mr. Basketball candidate David Johnson. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6th at Rupp Arena.
