CUMBERLAND, Ky. (WYMT)- Former and current athletes from the University of Kentucky were in Harlan County on Saturday teaching a clinic for Club 180 students. Club 180 is an outreach youth ministry organization.

"These kids here in this community are being encouraged by these athletes. The athletes are being encouraged by these kids, and just watching them interact with each other it's just amazing," said Club 180 Director Terry Burkeen.

Athletes from UK's swim, volleyball, football, and women's basketball team participated. One former women's basketball player from Bell County, Maci Morris, says she enjoyed giving back to the community of Eastern Kentucky.

"Kids from this area they're just really hard working. They get it from a long bloodline of people that worked hard in the mountains," said Morris.

The kids from Club 180 learned the fundamentals of multiple sports.

"It's pretty cool to learn how to do the right things to become a good football player," said student athlete Sedrick Washington.

This was just one stop for the UK athletes. They are doing other community service projects around Harlan County as well.
