MOREHEAD, Ky. – For the second consecutive year, Morehead State men's golf will be represented as the Professional Golf Association of America (PGA) Tour invades the Bluegrass State for the 2019 Barbasol Championship.
The 72-hole, four-day event once again finds its home at Champions at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky. and features a field of 132 players, including Morehead State's own Josh Teater.
Teater, who competed for the Eagles from 1998 to 2001, is embarking on his second Barbasol Championship, having competed in the inaugural event in 2018, where he tied for 40th. The event will mark Teater's 22nd event of the year on the PGA Tour.
This year marks the seventh season Teater has competed on the PGA Tour since turning pro upon graduation from Morehead State in 2001. Overall, he has competed in 181 PGA Tour events during his career.
On the year, Teater ranks 180th in the FedEx Cup Rankings (men's professional golf's playoff system) as he competes for a spot in the 2019 FedEx Cup Playoffs. The Playoffs, open to the top 125 players in the FedEx Cup rankings, begins August 8-11 with the Northern Trust (Liberty National Golf Club, Jersey City, N.J.).
The Barbasol Championship began in 2015 as an alternate PGA Tour event to The Open Championship. The event began at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Grand National Course in Opelika, Ala. before moving to Keene Trace during the 2018 season. Last year, Troy Merritt edged Billy Horschel, Tom Lovelady, and Richy Werenski.
Teater is grouped with Arjun Atwal and Chad Collins for the event's first round, teeing off at 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Coverage of the 2019 Barbasol Championship will be available on The Golf Channel throughout the event.
