LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT) - North Laurel scored early and often en route to their first-ever Region championship last week, 73-33 over the defending champion Harlan County Lady Black Bears.
With the win, the Lady Jaguars punched their ticket to the Sweet 16.
Head Coach Eddie Mahan says that North Laurel making an appearance in the Girls' Sweet 16 has been eight years in the making.
"This has been eight years coming, I came to North Laurel eight years ago and one of my goals was to get kids full scholarships, we have that down, we wanted to get a team that was going to play together, we've had that for a few years," Mahan said. "Then we wanted to start winning championships and become one of the best programs in the area and I definitely think that we've had the first two for a while and I think we are coming around to that third part."
The Lady Jaguars will meet Henderson County Thursday night at 8 p.m. up in Rupp Arena.
