EKU student wins car after hitting halfcourt shot at EKU basketball game

RICHMOND, Ky. – An Eastern Kentucky University student nailed a shot from half court and won a car during EKU’s men’s basketball game against Marshall on Wednesday.

Sameel Patel, a criminal justice major from London, Kentucky, hit the shot during a time out in the first half and won a new Ford EcoSport from Madison County Ford.

Patel’s car-winning shot was the No. 8 play on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top-10 Plays.

William Johnson made a 3-point shot to win a 65-inch 4K TV from Pieratt’s. A third fan attempted a three-quarter court shot to win $40,000, but that shot missed.

The Colonels play at Chattanooga on Saturday. Eastern’s next home game is Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. against Midway University.
