KANSAS CITY, Mo – Another big victory was on tap for the UC Football team this past weekend as they overpowered the Knights of St. Andrews University 56-14. It was the fourth straight win for the Patriots with all coming by at least 31 points. Now 9-1 overall on the year and 4-1 in MSC Appalachian play, Cumberlands has their eyes set on the regular season finale at the University of Pikeville in two weeks. On Monday, the latest edition of the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll was released and the Patriots made a slight move up the rankings in the eyes of the voters.
Cumberlands received a total of 199 total voting points to move up one spot from #14 to #13 in the NAIA. Four unbeaten teams earned spots in the poll including the top three teams in the NAIA.
Morningside (IA) holds tight to the #1 spot for the fifth consecutive week with 15 of 16 first-place votes and 366 total points. Marian (IN) received the final first-place nod and 352 points for the #2 spot. MSC opposition Bethel jumped two spots after a win over then #10 Lindsey Wilson this past weekend to #3 with 330 total points while MSC foe Reinhardt slides back one spot to #4 with 327 points. Grand View (IA) rounds out the top five with 308 points.
With their loss to Bethel, Lindsey Wilson dropped seven spots from #10 to #17 while the Tigers of Georgetown improved one spot from #20 to #19. After making their first appearance in the NAIA Top 25 poll, #25 Keiser (FL) falls out of the poll after a loss to Ave Maria University, who now is the first team outside of the poll as they are receiving 18 points in the receiving votes section.
UC has a bye week this week before closing out the regular season on November 10th at the University of Pikeville. The Patriots fell to the Bears last season 46-32 in Williamsburg. Kickoff is slated for 6 pm.
