Kansas City, MO – A convincing 50-17 win on Homecoming over Bluefield last Saturday has the Patriots Football team in good spirits. With Senior Day on the horizon and UC currently at 8-1 overall on the year (3-1 MSC Appalachian), the players and coaches are more determined than ever for a strong finish. On Monday, the latest edition of the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll was released and the Patriots continue to climb up the rankings in the eyes of the voters.
Cumberlands received a total of 182 total voting points to move up three spots from #17 to #14 in the NAIA. Four unbeaten teams earned spots in the poll including three of the top five teams.
Morningside (IA) holds tight to the #1 spot for a fourth straight week with 15 of 16 first-place votes and 366 total points. Marian (IN) received the final first-place nod and 352 points for the #2 spot. MSC foe Reinhardt jumps two spots to #3 with 334 points. Grand View (IA) with 314 points and MSC opposition Bethel (TN) with 304 both leap three spots to round out the top five.
Lindsey Wilson (KY) dropped six spots from #4 to #10 this week after their loss to unranked Cumberland University. The Tigers of Georgetown also trended upwards with a one-spot improvement from #21 to #20. Keiser (FL) make their first appearance in the NAIA Top 25 at #25 after improving to 6-2 overall on the year and a perfect 4-0 in MSC Sun Division play.
UC now turns to Senior Day on October 27th as they will host St. Andrews University for another MSC Appalachian Division matchup. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 pm with Senior Day festivities to be held before the game. Last season in the first meeting of the schools, UC defeated the Knights in Laurinburg, North Carolina by a score of 21-14. Live video of the contest can be seen here on the UC Sports Network.
