MANCHESTER, Ky. (WYMT) - A number of Clay County residents sent the Lady Tigers' softball team off this afternoon as they get ready for the Elite Eight of the KHSAA Fast Pitch State Softball Tournament. Fans showed up in painted cars and sporting Clay County gear.
"As far as for softball, it's great. I mean it'd be good for any sport, but especially for softball, that's something that hasn't been experienced here for the last few years," Head Coach Jamie Gilbert said. "It's really, really great to have that excitement back."
Clay County also has seven seniors on the roster who all got a taste of the state tournament last season. The Lady Tigers are excited about another opportunity in Lexington, and they hope to bring home some hardware.
"We've all been playing together since we're little and we're so excited to be able to have that experience again, and we're hoping that this time we can do better than we did last year and hopefully make it all the way," Senior Shelby Phillips said.
