WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Caleb Stidham will stay close to home, as the senior signed with UPIKE basketball. The Letcher Central Cougar averaged 7.4 points per game for the Cougars, who finished as runner-ups in the 53rd District and earned a spot in the 14th Region tournament.
Stidham and his high school head coach Winston Lee are excited for Stidham to stay close to home.
"Wanted to be somewhere where I could come in on weekends, you know hang out with family. Still be within distance where everybody can come see me play," Stidham said about staying close to home. "You know, feeling love and support from all my family and friends, it means a lot."
"To see him sign and ultimately play basketball at the next level is just a testament to him and his hard work, so it's exciting to watch," Lee added.
Lee also talked about Stidham's hard work to be able to play at the collegiate level.
"He is just the epitome of hard work and dedication and how far it can take you. Even if you were told that you were undersized or you can't do this well or that well, he overcame all of those," Lee said about his former point guard's work ethic. "Anything we could criticize, he overcame and he worked to correct those things."
