LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT)— With Terry Wilson being the only Quarterback on Kentucky's roster with FBS experience after Gunnar Hoak transferred to Ohio State, the Wildcats have actively been searching for more experience at that position.
Kentucky brought in Penn State grad transfer Tommy Stevens for a visit last week.
After bringing in Smith over the weekend, the QB announced he will be coming to the Bluegrass State on Monday.
Excited to announce that I'm going to spend my last seasons as a Graduate Transfer at THE University of Kentucky!! Words can't begin to explain how proud my family and I are to be apart of the #BBN @UKFootball pic.twitter.com/b223Ixk3td— Sawyer Smith (@smittyyy22) May 13, 2019
Smith, who played for former UK assistant Neal Brown, led the Trojans to a victory in the Dollar General Bowl against Buffalo. Smith went 31-44 for 320 yards and four touchdowns in that game.
Smith is no stranger to competition at the quarterback spot. He played in all 13 games for Troy in 2018 after taking over as the starter in the seventh game of the season.
Smith is expected to be the backup for the upcoming season, but like Wilson, he has two years of eligibility remaining.
