Billy Hicks returns home to Evarts to give back to his community
High school basketball is a big deal anywhere in Kentucky, and it always means a lot when the legends of high school basketball come home.
That's what billy hicks did for Evarts Saturday.
Hicks returned to his hometown to help with a basketball camp at North Evarts elementary school.
Hicks finished his coaching career with over 1,000 wins at the high school level, the most in KHSAA history, to go along with two state championships.
However, Hicks says he could not have accomplished anything without Evarts, and that this is his way of giving back to the community that gave so much to him.
"This is my way of using the success I've been able to achieve out there to help others. Also, to help people who helped me," Hicks said. "You know, these people and this place are directly responsible for the success - if I've had any success. And so being able to - again just practicing what I preach."
