Appalachian Wireless Roundball Preview: Middlesboro Lady Jackets
The Middlesboro Lady Jackets are coming off a 13th Region All "A" championship, and a 12-18 record overall.
Middlesboro graduated three seniors as they head into head coach Scott Overbay's second full year, and he wants to make major changes.
"Last year we were the weakest team and slowest team in our region. That will not be the same this year," Overbay stated. "We put cross fit in our system and they absolutely love that more than anything."
"My team has been putting in a lot of work and practice. We try to push ourselves to be better each and every day working on defense and offense," Senior Center Gracie Moles said.
The Yellow Jackets hope the hard work will help them play at a faster pace this year.
"We are definitely trying to become a more fast pace team. Just shooting the ball a lot," Junior Point Guard Gracie Gent said.
"We are working on footwork and agility to be a faster team than we were last year," Macy Mink said, a senior wing.
After winning the All "A" region last year and finishing second in the district in the regular season, the Lady Jackets have the same goals this year and want to take the next step.
"We definitely want to go and get the All-A again, the district and repeat what we did last year and do even better than we did last year," Sophomore Wing Kailey Owens said.
Middlesboro hosts Lynn Camp in their opening game on December 2nd.
