Appalachian Wireless Roundball Preview: Betsy Layne Lady Cats

STANVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - The Betsy Layne Lady Cats are looking to improve this season after going 7-22 and 0-8 in district play during the 2018-2019 season. They fell to Lawrence County, 65-31 in the first round of the 58th District tournament.

The Lady Cats are under new leadership this year in head coach Doug Hopkins. Hopkins and Betsy Layne hope they can get in the win column more this year, even with such a young team.

"It's kinda hard sometimes because we aren't as mature as the other ones because we have a whole lot of new people who come out," Senior Center Allie Jarvis said. "Some of us have played together all 4 years and some from grade school."

"Allie and some of the older girls have been really good mentoring them and everything else but you have to kinda slow everything down and it's more of a teaching process now instead of going too fast," Hopkins said. "It's more hands-on than what it usually is."
