Appalachian Wireless Roundball Preview: Betsy Layne Bobcats

STANVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Last season, the Betsy Layne Bobcats finished below .500 with a 13-16 record, including a 3-4 58th District record. The Bobcats fell in the 58th District tournament to Prestonsburg. However, Betsy Layne has no seniors on this team.

"Well being as we don't have a senior on the team we all have to step up show the freshman what to do and help everybody out," Sophomore Center Chase Mims said.

"We just have to teach the young guys how to practice and not goof off," Shawn Howell added, a junior point guard for the Bobcats.

"It makes me more of like think more as a leader and just help everybody out and show them what to do," Junior Point Guard Jordan Frazier continued.

"I'm just trying to show the freshman how to be more mature than they were in their 8th-grade year and in middle school," Brady Robinson added, a sophomore point guard.

Despite being young, the Bobcats hope to get some wins under their belt this season.

"That's what kinda sets us apart I think. We have a young team but a lot of times young is code for not very good and we're not that team. This is one of the first teams I've ever had since I've been coaching were young but we have experience," Head Coach Brad Short said. "I think we're in good shape, so we're young but we're a pretty experienced team we still have a lot of work to do."

The Bobcats host Pike Central to open the season. The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. on December 2nd.
