RICHMOND, Ky. (WYMT) - EKU basketball's media day took place Wednesday afternoon, and a former North Laurel Jaguar received some high praise from newly hired head coach A.W. Hamilton.
"If we had to throw it up and play a game today, he would start for us," Hamilton said about Sophomore guard Peyton Broughton during the news conference. "That is how far he has come."
Broughton is coming off of a freshman season where he played in 28 games for the Colonels, with four of those coming as starts.
The guard averaged 4.1 points per game and shot 38.5 percent from three-point range, making 15-of-39. But Coach Hamilton says he expects more than just 15 threes out of Broughton this season.
"Last year, I got here and I'm pulling up Peyton's stats and I'm having a meeting with him, and he hit 15 threes," Hamilton said. "I was like Peyton, you have got to his 15 threes in the first four games. You don't just average 30 if you can't play. He is going to have a really good year."
