PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Fresh off his second straight season with a winning record in the Mid-South Conference East Division, University of Pikeville head football coach Allan Holland Jr., kept them momentum rolling with a successful class of initial signees on Wednesday.
On the first day of the college football signing period, the Bears received scholarship agreements from student-athletes in five different states.
It’s a class that meets many needs for Holland Jr., entering his third season at the helm, who will continue to recruit throughout the spring and summer.
“We’ve had a lot of great recruits on campus to try and find that true student-athlete, guys that want to buy into the program and do the right things on and off the field,” said Holland Jr. “That’s big for each of these young men and their families, to set them up for success after playing college football.”
Many of Wednesday’s signees finished prep careers that went deep into the postseason at their respective high schools, an experience that Holland Jr., thinks can pay dividends at UPIKE.
“These signees know what it takes to win and how it feels to experience competing in the playoffs,” said Holland Jr. “That’s something that we are trying to get back to here at UPIKE and we hope that momentum carries over to us.”
UPIKE is scheduled to open the 2016 season at 6:30 p.m. ET, on Thursday, Aug. 25 at Bluefield (Va.).
