ORLANDO, Fla. (WYMT) - With just about four days until the 2019 VRBO Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida, the streets are starting to become a little bluer as fans make their way to the sunshine state.
Many will be spending their New Year's eve and day in Orlando. From indoor skydiving to standup comedy, there's something for everyone. One of the big attractions in downtown Orlando is the food.
"We get a good crowd from there because we’re less than a mile away. Some people decide to walk, some people decide to take the petty cabs," said Jon San Juan, the business manager at Avenue Gastrobar.
He says they usually have a large turnout whenever fans come to town for bowl games. If anyone in Big Blue Nation does not have tickets, he says not to worry because his bar streams the games.
For some fans, the trip is hundreds of miles, for others, it's in their own backyard.
“I’m excited I hope they pull out a big win,” said Paula Farmbrough, a Kentucky native now living in Orlando. "Big UK fans, unfortunately, we don’t get to see a lot of the games because we live in Florida."
She said when she heard the news about UK getting into the 2019 VRBO Citrus Bowl, she knew tickets were a must.
“When it was announced it was the Citrus Bowl I told my friend, I’m like 'we gotta get tickets' so here we are," she added.
Other fans like Carson Hinshaw were able to stand on the sidelines as UK practiced at West Orange High School's field just outside downtown Orlando. Hinshaw was able to get a photo with one of his favorites, Jon Allen.
“Like that’s who you watch on TV every Saturday and it’s fun to watch him, good to meet him and take pictures with him and stuff,” he said.
