ORLANDO, Fla. (WYMT) - Kentucky football picked up their 10th win of the season in the 2019 VRBO Citrus Bowl to cap off a historic season for the program.
The Wildcats held off a surging Penn State team late in the fourth quarter.
Kentucky held a 27-7 lead entering the fourth quarter, but back to back Nittany Lion touchdowns early in the final 15 minutes of play made it a one-possession ball game.
Benny Snell became Kentucky's all-time leading rusher in the third quarter thanks to a 12-yard touchdown run.
Penn State brought the game down to just three points with 4:12 to play thanks to a 32-yard field goal, leaving Kentucky with the ball and a 27-24 lead.
The Wildcats would drain the clock all the way down to nine seconds before having to punt, but Penn State was unable to capitalize on the hail mary attempt from their own 17-yard line with one second left on the clock.
With the victory, Kentucky finishes their season 10-3 overall. It is just the third time in school history the Wildcats have won 10 games in a season (1977, 1950).
UK has 17 wins over the past two seasons, which is the fourth-most in back-to-back seasons in program history: 20 (1949-50), 19 (1950-51 and 1976-77).
The final victory gives the current senior class (2015-18) the most wins (29) in their career since the class from 2006-2009 won 30 total games.
Kentucky now has nine bowl game wins and their bowl record now sits at 9-9 overall.
