UPDATE: One woman dead after Clay County shooting

Kentucky State Police are investigating a shooting that happened in Clay County over the weekend.

Dispatchers received the call at 12:36 on Saturday morning. Officials say Samuel Cornett, 52, shot his girlfriend Alisha G. Tye, 35, both of Manchester during a domestic dispute.

We're told Tye fled to a neighbor’s home to get away from her boyfriend. Cornett then followed her and forced his way inside. Police say once Cornett located the victim, he fired several shots striking her.

The victim was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she later died.

Police later arrested Cornett, and placed him in the Clay County Detention on the charges of:

5 counts of Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree

Attempted Murder

Assault, 1st Degree

Burglary, 1st Degree

Kentucky State Police are investigating.
